Before buying our Classic Airstream we looked at some nice GMC Motorhomes. They were certainly ahead of their times and are true Classics as well. I really like the way they look and have seen some really neat paint jobs.
However, my Wife didn't like the fact that the bed took up the whole bedreoom and she didn't like the concept of making a bed while being in the bed itself. Little cramped. Another thing I learned is that the front wheel drive has difficulty pulling the tandem on wet grass and is prone to getting stuck real easy.
We almost bought one about ten years ago that had been rebuilt off the frame and up. It was a beauty! Everything new or rebuilt. There was a company then that did that off-the-frame restoration work. Wonder if they are still aroung?

We started out looking for a new airstream, and decided against it.
We then stumbled onto the GMC. We want something Just big enough, and believe 26ft will do the job well.
The layout on the 26 vary, and I know where your wife is coming from, we just sold a boat with an aft cabin that the bed had just that type. We had Epsilon for ten years..it was the climbing over a sleeping person to check on the anchor that was more bothersome.
I have found some great looking gmc, and now have to work out which is the best for us. Fully off frame ...I know do not think so. I think there are a few very good well maintained one's available. that we will decide on.
The problem is alot of people do not understand that you can not ask for your maintance costs back...what you do to keep a recreational V, road worthy and safe is not really an improvement..and some of the flashy kitchens and awful paint jobs can create a negative for the buyer and an added cost to redo.
We just sold our boat and lost over 100.000 over ten years on it. I thought we did very well. We had ten years of safe, comfortable boating and sold a well maintained and good looking boat, that sold to a happy buyer that felt they payed what the boat was worth.
I am hoping to find a buyer and MH that we feel good about and they feel good about us.
Thanks for the input, we do not want to tow anything, which may prove to be a problem, but my husband and I have been driving on the other side of the road for over 20 years...we want to make the experience as safe for everyone as possible....lol.
Any extra info is welcome. We will only be using the MH for 12 months and will be selling it....then buying a boat again....unless we become huge fans of MHomeing...it will be fun not having the road move under us for a change.  |

Thanks everyone for all the information. You have a great site with lots of helpful info.
We decided against the older GMC, It is difficult buying something sight unseen...and it was not working out..we ended up buying a newer airstream which we believe will work very well for us...Still really love the older Airstream and the GMC...but who wouldn't.
